Plain terms.

Last updated 10 September 2026. Using Driftless Field means accepting these terms. They are written to be read, not to be impressive.

What this is

Driftless Field is a calculation and record-keeping tool for construction field work, provided by Driftless Solutions. It performs arithmetic on numbers you enter and stores the results in your browser.

What it is not

It is not a survey, an engineering service, or professional advice, and using it does not create a professional relationship of any kind. It does not check whether your benchmark is correct, whether your tolerance is appropriate for the work, whether a slope is safe, or whether anything you build with its output complies with a drawing, a specification, a code or a permit.

You remain responsible for verifying every figure before acting on it. Estimates depend entirely on the dimensions and assumptions you supply, and a wrong input produces a confident-looking wrong answer. Where the work matters — and on a dig it usually does — check the result against an independent method and against the judgement of a qualified person.

A PASS result means only that a difference you entered falls within a tolerance you chose. It is not a statement that any standard, contract or regulation has been met.

Your data and your responsibility for it

Your jobs are stored in your browser on your own device. They are not backed up anywhere by us and we cannot recover them. Browser data can be lost by clearing site data, by private browsing, by a browser or operating system change, or by device failure.

Keeping backups is your responsibility. The backup download is free and available whether or not you have paid. Use it.

Licence

The free calculators and the free tier of the workspace are available to anyone. A Pro licence key grants one person a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Pro features for the period it covers.

Do not share, resell, publish or attempt to forge licence keys, and do not attempt to circumvent the licence check. Doing so ends your right to use the Pro features without a refund.

Cancelling a subscription stops future renewals; Pro continues to work until the key on your device reaches its expiry date. We may end a licence for breach of these terms, and where we do so without cause we will refund the unused portion.

Refunds

Within 30 days of purchase, ask and you get a full refund. After that, we will still consider a fair request, particularly if the software failed to do something we said it does.

Availability and changes

This is a small independent product, offered as it is. We do not promise uninterrupted availability, and we may change, add or remove features. If a change removes something you were paying for, you can have a refund of the unused portion of your term.

These terms may be updated. Material changes will move the date at the top of this page, and continuing to use the tool after that means accepting the revised terms.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Driftless Solutions is not liable for loss arising from use of this tool — including rework, delay, over- or under-ordered material, lost job data, or consequential loss. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you actually paid us in the twelve months before it arose, which for free users is nothing.

Some jurisdictions do not permit certain exclusions; where that applies to you, these limits apply only so far as the law allows, and nothing here removes rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wisconsin, United States, and the courts there have jurisdiction, without affecting mandatory consumer protections in your own jurisdiction.
